UK to Norway, answered

How much does it cost to move to Norway from the UK?

Volume first, then whether you take a dedicated vehicle or share one, then the destination — Oslo is a materially shorter run than Tromsø — then access at both ends, then how much packing you want us to do. Because Norway is a customs import rather than an intra-EU movement, the declaration work is part of the job too. We survey before quoting rather than reading a figure off a list, because a guess here is a guess about paperwork as well as volume.

Is Norway in the EU? Does that change anything?

It changes the customs half of the move. Norway is in the EEA but outside the EU customs union and outside EU VAT, so your goods need a proper Norwegian import declaration on arrival rather than the lighter intra-EU paperwork. It is entirely routine, but it is a real process — and it is not the same as moving to an EU member state.

What is flyttegods?

Norway’s moving-goods provisions. Where you are genuinely relocating to Norway rather than furnishing a holiday property, used household effects that you owned and used before the move can generally be imported relieved of duty and VAT, provided the conditions are met and you can evidence the move. It is the single most valuable thing to get right, and it is why the inventory matters so much.

How long does a move to Norway take?

It depends on the route, on whether your load has its own vehicle or is sharing one, on where in Norway you are going, and on how clearance runs. Rather than publish a figure we cannot stand behind, your written quote sets out an expected window for your specific move and says plainly what would shift it — a groupage load waiting to fill, a sailing schedule, a documentation query.

Do you cover the whole of Norway?

Yes, from Kristiansand on the south coast to Finnmark in the far north. Five destinations have their own page — Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger, Trondheim and Tromsø — and everywhere else is set out on the where-we-deliver page, honestly, including the places that are genuinely hard to reach and the times of year it is sensible to attempt them.

Do you move from Norway back to the UK?

Yes. It is the less common direction but we run it regularly. The customs position reverses — a UK import declaration rather than a Norwegian one — and the UK has its own transfer-of-residence relief for people returning or relocating here. Ask and we will explain what your particular case needs.

How far ahead should we book?

Earlier than for a domestic move, and earlier than most people expect. The constraint is rarely the vehicle — it is the residence paperwork on your side and, if you are sailing, the schedule. Start the conversation as soon as you have a rough window, even if nothing is fixed.

Can you collect from more than one UK address?

Yes, and on an international move it is common — a house, a storage unit, something at a relative’s. Build the collections into the plan at survey; adding one once the vehicle is loaded is a different and considerably more expensive proposition.

What happens if something is damaged?

Note it at delivery on the paperwork while the crew is there, and tell us in writing. The claims process and the reporting window are set out in the booking terms. On a long export move, keeping the packaging until a claim is assessed matters — it is often what establishes where the damage happened.

Do you handle the return leg too?

Yes, Norway back to the UK, with the customs position reversed. The UK operates its own transfer-of-residence relief for people moving here, which works on similar principles to flyttegods but is a separate application with its own conditions.

Can you move a car, boat or motorbike?

Sometimes, depending on the route and vehicle. Be aware that vehicle importation into Norway is a substantial subject in its own right with its own costs and paperwork, entirely separate from household goods. Raise it at survey so it is planned rather than assumed.

Do you offer a video survey?

Yes, and for a flat or a smaller household it works perfectly well — you walk us round on your phone, open the cupboards, show us the access and the street. For a full house, or anywhere with genuinely awkward access, we would rather come and stand in it.

What is the hardest part of a UK to Norway move?

Honestly, the sequencing. The residence permit, the property at the Norwegian end, the sailing or road schedule and your own availability all move independently, and they rarely line up first time. Storage at one end or the other is the usual answer, and planning for that possibility early is what keeps it calm.

Do you serve Sweden, Denmark or Germany?

Not as destinations. Those countries are transit on the overland route only. This site does one corridor — UK to Norway — and does it properly, rather than listing everywhere a lorry could theoretically reach.

Still not answered?

The detail pages go further than this list. Moving to Norway covers the sequence — residence, property, identity number, then the move. Norwegian customs explains the EEA position and flyttegods properly. The route sets out both ways in. And where we deliver is honest about which parts of Norway are genuinely hard to reach.

Anything else, get in touch. There is no charge for a question, and on this corridor plenty of them come from people who are still deciding whether to move at all.

Tell us what you’re moving and we’ll map the route.

Both addresses, roughly how much there is, and whether you are relocating to Norway or furnishing a second place. Those three shape the quote and the paperwork.
